Throwdown Surf Classic

Sep 16, 2022
In its 14th year the Throwdown Surf Classic has become a community favorite.  When it was first started by Greg Sherman and Stephen Lamm, the competition was a small (30 competitors), local event with proceeds going to the Surfrider Foundation.  Currently, it has around 180 competitors and well over 500 spectators. According to Amy Robinson, board member, last year's proceeds produced a $52,000 contribution to The Outer Banks Relief Fund. Proceeds are raised through sponsorships, merchandise sales, food sales, and raffles.

Formerly called the Throw Down North of Town, this event has quickly become a community social. Local sponsors, local participants, and kid-friendly competition make the Throwdown a must-see experience.

This year's contest is Saturday, 8am to 5pm+, at the Chicahauk beach access in Southern Shores. Arrive early to get a good parking spot.
