Ready for an Outer Banks Weekend, 11/17/2023

Elizabeth City Party Animals
I love how downtown Elizabeth City is going through a little revitalization. It now has craft breweries, great eateries, and new shops. I highly recommend stopping in at Seven Sounds Brewing or Big Boss Burritos (or both!). However, should you be out on the streets late at night you may want to bring your bear spray.
I don't want to make fun of the homeless because everyone's story is different, but the eye-witness who lives on the streets is an evangelist with, I'm assuming, a PhD? My college degree just lost more value.
Thanksgiving
I'm thankful for another year on the Outer Banks with friends and family. This continues to be a special place for me to live and work. Thanksgiving for us is usually pretty tame. My wife does a great job making a huge dinner that everyone enjoys, we sit around and watch football, and, depending on the weather, maybe we'll go for a long walk or a bike ride.
If you're coming in to town and not planning to make a Thanksgiving dinner, here are a few options for you. Always call ahead for details and availability.

North Carolina High School Soccer Championship
Once again the First Flight High School boys soccer team is in the state championship game. They will play tomorrow at 11 a.m. in the MacPherson Stadium, just north of Greensboro. A few of our lacrosse players are on the team and I know they're excited for the opportunity. You can learn more about the program from my podcast episode with their head coach, Juan Ramirez.
THINGS TO DO
12/2/23 and 12/16/23, Climb a Lighthouse
Bodie Island Lighthouse usually closes for the winter. Here's a window of opportunity to climb it in December. Make an afternoon of it and hike the trails around the lighthouse. When you're done with that, drive a mile down the highway and hike around Oregon Inlet. You won't be disappointed.
Native American Heritage Month
It was apropos that I interviewed Scott Dawson of the Lost Colony Museum this month. His research of the local tribes is amazing. If you're heading to Buxton, be sure to stop by his museum and learn a little about the natives that were here hundreds of years ago. After that you can swing by the Frisco Native American Museum.

Camping
The NPS campgrounds at Frisco and Cape Point will be closing on November 27. Oregon Inlet and Ocracoke campgrounds will remain open all year.
