McDonald's in Kitty Hawk Has Closed For Good (Riddance)
Having lived for over 20 years within walking distance of this McDonald's I can tell you authoritatively that their service (with very few exceptions when they had a few, good staffers) was historically poor. At this location the term “fast food” was merely an abstract idea. This is not a loss.
For those of you who lament the losses of someone's job, cream always rises to the top and when one door closes another door often opens.
This is a good time to remind everyone that there are several, great breakfast locations in Kitty Hawk. Some of my favorites are Stack'em High, Barrier Island Bagels, Art's Place, Sandtrap Tavern, and Henry's (technically, KDH, but right on the border). If speed is of the essence, several of these places offer call-in or online ordering.
At this point I’d like to officially start a Chick-fil-A rumor regarding the McDonald's real estate. You heard it here first.
Squatters
For some reason squatters is a popular topic in the media right now. The story below is perhaps an example of the guy getting exactly what he wanted; a free place to stay.
THINGS TO DO
Get Outside!
11/17-22/23, Wings over Water
If you enjoy exploring the outdoors on the Outer Banks, you’ll be impressed with the schedule of events for this year’s Wings over Water.
Get Outside Some More!
11/17/23, OBX Fall Star Party
"This is an opportunity to observe the night sky with telescopes provided by enthusiastic amateur astronomers. Find activities, star charts and more at this FREE event."
Click Bait!
I both hate and laugh at click bait. The example above I had to share.
“Kill Devil Hills College Named Worst College in US”
Besides the ridiculousness of a college in Kill Devil Hills, the photo of a building with snow on it is even more amusing. IYKYK
Click Bait II!
"3-year-old girl visits all 63 US national parks"
That’s a slightly misleading headline. It should say, “Helicopter parents take child to every park because they had nothing better to do.” In a fake quote I just made up, the parents said, "It's never too early to get a start on her college admissions resume." Did the child do anything exceptional besides sit in the back of a car? This is not news. Stop wasting everyone’s time.
Merch
Don't forget to order your Outer Banks merchandise to show your affection for the OBX and help support this newsletter. It also makes a great Christmas gift.
Have a Great Weekend,
