Ready for an Outer Banks Weekend, 10/27/2023
Oct 27, 2023Geriatric Hospital
As my wife and I go see our son play lacrosse we often drive through central Virginia. Every time we pass the Piedmont Geriatric Hospital in Crewe, Virginia (2.8 stars on Google) Bonnie threatens to drop me off. This is usually followed by a long discussion as I explain why it would be a bad idea. After a while she forgets where the conversation started and I'm given a reprieve until next time.
Halloween Edition
If I had little kids strapped to me (I've graduated from that period in my life) and had to take them trick-or-treating I'd go to W. First St. in Kill Devil Hills. The residents in this neighborhood go crazy for Halloween and it's become an organic, community event. Be advised, this is not a secret and the streets will be packed with people. Don't even think about driving down those streets. Get in early, find somewhere to park (Publix grocery store?), and start walking. It's very dark on these streets so bring a flashlight. Also, the streets can be a bit of a maze to the uneducated so make sure your cell phone GPS is working.
If my kids were super young I might consider the two options below. They are during the day and there's less chance you'll lose them (if I had a nickel....).
10/28/2023, Trick or Treat in Manteo
Kids can visit participating shops in downtown Manteo to get an early jump on Halloween. I have it on good authority that this is an event joined enthusiastically by local businesses.
10/28/2023, 11th Annual Wooden Boat Show
See works of art and meet the builders.
10/29/2023, 10th Annual Outer Banks Halloween Parade at Aviation Park
Get out and see all the amazing costumes.
Samsung Galaxy
How come every time my Samsung Galaxy performs a security update I get three, new games on my phone? I thought the whole idea of a security update was to keep people from messing with my phone. Dear Samsung, don't call it a security update if it's just an opportunity to put more crap on my phone.
