Ready for an Outer Banks Weekend, 7/19/2024
Jul 19, 2024Another Woman
About 2 years ago my wife decided to stop dyeing her hair and let the grey grow out. As always, she looks amazing. Several weeks ago she and I went to a party and saw an old acquaintance. We said "hi", exchanged some brief pleasantries, and kept moving. Fast forward to last weekend when Bonnie ran in to that same person who told Bonnie she didn't recognize her at the party and didn't realize who she was until a mutual friend explained to her that Bonnie had changed her hair color.
This got me wondering; did this person think I had a new wife/girlfriend? Is she the only one thinking this? Maybe I need to post some updated photos on Facebook.
The Village Table and Tavern
Last week I had the pleasure of visiting The Village Table and Tavern twice! Both times I arrived by boat. It's an easy ride from Southern Shores and if the staff at Nor'banks Sailing are around they will often help you tie up to the pier or they may help you disembark and then put your boat on a mooring. It's an extra bonus if they retrieve the boat when you're ready to leave so you don't have to jump in the water. (Don't forget to tip your dock hands.)
The Village Table and Tavern is on a beautiful piece of property north of "downtown" Duck and the Duck Fire Station. Located directly on the Currituck Sound you can watch the Nor'banks rental boats come and later catch an amazing sunset.
The restaurant has two sections; the upstairs houses the main dining area and on the ground level you'll find the outdoor "Sound Lounge". The upstairs has an open layout with a great bar as the centerpiece. The west side is all windows, giving most of the diners a great view of the sound. The food is excellent and the service is on point.
I often travel fast, light, and casual, so the Sound Lounge is where I like to go. There's a bar to serve you cold beverages and the waitstaff are happy to take your orders from the reduced menu. Kids will enjoy this space because it's perfect for roaming around while waiting for food. There is also live music several nights a week.

THINGS TO DO
July 19-20, 2024, Wright Kite Festival
A family-friendly event to see kites, make kites, and/or fly kites.

Daily (Summer), Manteo Walking Tours
If you get tired of the beach be sure to spend a day in Manteo for entertainment, shopping, and dining. The walking tours are a fun way to learn about the town's history and people.

Rainy Day Reads
Since the weekend forecast doesn't look terribly promising this might be a good time to read a book. One of my favorites is David McCullough's The Wright Brothers. It's an amazing biography on the brothers and details how they, with help from their family, came from simple means in Ohio to invent a flying machine. Their stay on the Outer Banks is documented and it's interesting to read how desolate, yet welcoming, the area was back then.
