Ready for an Outer Banks Weekend, 7/14/2023
Jul 14, 2023Facebook Imposters
What if someone tried to take your identity on Facebook and they were better looking, smarter, funnier, and their kids were more successful than your own? I would hack their account and own it.
Kill Devil Grill
According to the nurse that was taking a blood sample from me yesterday, Kill Devil Grill is under new ownership. Apparently, the staff were called in to a meeting where the owner told them he had sold the business, introduced the new owner, and walked out. To his credit, the new owner told the staff everything would be business as usual.
Things To Do
VusicOBX
As a reminder, VusicOBX still has several concerts you can enjoy throughout the rest of the summer. I highly recommend you make a day of it. Hang out in Manteo, find a good place to eat, check out some shops, then finish with a concert in a beautiful outdoor setting at Roanoke Island Festival Park.
Jackie Koenig Exhibit, August 4-26
Opening reception on August 4, 6-8pm, during Manteo's First Friday.
Jackie Koenig captures the Outer Banks with vibrant oil colors.
It Had To Be Poop
I'm proud to say that, for the most part, the Outer Banks still has pristine beaches. But it got me thinking, the Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce should whiteboard this in to a new media ad. "Don't swim in poop. Come to the Outer Banks."
Needs a little more work.
Pickleball
People on the Outer Banks are losing their minds over Pickleball. The big friction point is where to put new courts. Real estate is highly valuable and areas of outdoor recreation are becoming maxed out due to the land-locked nature of Dare County. One location that would help alleviate the problem is the park just south of The Dare Centre in Kill Devil Hills. There are two tennis courts that are never in use that could be converted to Pickleball courts. Your welcome.
Corolla
Remember that '80s movie, Escape From New York? I remember the in-theater narrator saying, "New York City. Going in is insane. Coming out is impossible." This is the same thing people must feel when staying in Corolla in the summer time. You fight the traffic at the Wright Memorial Bridge and the Town of Duck just to get to your rental. I hope you're happy because getting out will require the skills of a Snake Plissken.
Don't get me wrong. I think there are a ton of cool things in Corolla, I just choose not to explore them in the summer.
Finally, please check out my new Shopify store and show your appreciation and support. I'll be adding more t-shirt designs that I think you'll like.
Note: This process is new to me so let me know if you have any issues and I'll be happy to rectify them for you.
Have a Great Weekend,
John Van Lunen
