Apparently the Stitcher app and website is going bye-bye on 8/29/23. The announcement immediately got my attention because I use the app exclusively for listening to podcasts when I'm walking the dogs. Since I use Spotify for my music I'll begin the process of "following" my favorite podcasts to that platform.

Outer Banks Visionaries: Building North Carolina's Oceanfront, by Clark Twiddy.
Twiddy's book does a great job of explaining how the Outer Banks caught lightning in a bottle and developed in to a world-class vacation destination. The economy, local government, and business visionaries created the perfect confluence to form this area in to something nobody imagined.

The Freedmen's Colony is an area on Roanoke Island that no longer exists but its story should be told. We should never forget how this area was integral in helping former slaves get on their feet, yet taken away from them.
Things To Do
The Outer Banks is interesting due to the lack of pedestrian-friendly areas. It's a by-product of wide open beaches and no boardwalks. If you’re visiting for the first time, be ready to drive everywhere. However, there are a few places where you can still spend a good part of the day walking around, catching the sites, dining out, and shopping. Duck is one of those places and the town has created a unique experience.
Here are few tips for enjoying the village.
- Bike, if possible.
- Get in before lunch.
- Avoid Duck, if you can, on Saturdays and Sundays in the summer. The traffic may ruin your experience.
- Park on one "end", either The Waterfront shops to the north or Scarborough Lane to the south, and walk around.
