Things To Do

Pea Island Cookhouse Museum Juneteenth Celebration, 6/17/23
For the 3rd straight year Manteo's own, Tshombe Shelby, will be performing at the Pea Island Cookhouse in celebration of Juneteenth.
For those who aren't able to join in person, the event will be livestreamed beginning at 5 p.m. (EST) on the Pea Island Facebook page!

Where to Eat

Here's an excellent list of great Outer Banks restaurants. I'm embarrassed to say I've never been to Owen's and Howard's Pub. Time to get busy.

I returned to I Got Your Crabs with my family (they hadn't been there) and they confirmed my declaration of this place being worth the visit. Fast, hot, and tasty food. This time I had the fish tacos. Excellent choice.

News

Interesting news regarding the red wolves near the Outer Banks.

Places to Go

If you read last week's email you know I can get a little cynical with articles related to Outer Banks tourism. However, Our State magazine is a great publication and below is an excellent article regarding places to go on the OBX.

Summer Must-Have
Want to enjoy sitting on your deck or patio without getting attacked by mosquitos?  We take these on the deck with us and they do an excellent job of keeping the mosquitos away without the smoke of citronella candles (which I think are useless).  Small and easy to use, a tiny butane canister heats a repellent card with the magic ingredient to keep mosquitos at bay.  No smoke, smell, or sprays. Enjoy your summer outdoors. Small print: Should you use the following link to purchase anything on Amazon, I may receive a small commission.

Simplified Investing
I always feel like I should be doing more to put away money. Acorns is an easy (and interesting) way to invest your spare change. Acorns is an app that you can link some or all of your debit and credit cards to so that every purchase you make will be rounded up to the nearest dollar and that extra change is swept in to a computer-managed investment portfolio. My thought is that I'll never miss that spare change, I may as well put it to work. I think kids should set up an account (with adult supervision) so they can get a taste of investing and see their money grow.

Have a great weekend.
