jk's restaurant parent of the year streaming tv t-shirts vandelay industries wind speed Jan 12, 2024
True Story
I am currently in a perpetual game of "Whack-a-Mole" with robo-calls on my cell phone. Whenever I see one I block their number from future contact. It's the only satisfying thing I can do with a spam call. When I see a number that looks suspicious, I will answer the call because; 1. I own a business and it could be a potential client. 2. It's faster to block the call after I hang up.  Eventually, the robo-callers will run out of phone numbers. Right?

Last week I saw a phone call that looked very suspicious and I figured it was spam.  I answered, as I always do, with "Vandelay Industries".   After a long pause the person on the other end responded with "George Costanza?"  After we both laughed I explained to him how I always answer spam calls with "Vandelay Industries".  Amusingly, he owned up that it was, indeed, a spam call.  We actually had a good conversation and it ended amicably with him thanking me for starting his day off with a laugh.

This event inspired me to create this t-shirt design.

100mph Winds!
Tuesday's storm was a bit blustery on the Outer Banks.  I'm surprised we're not looking at more downed trees.

You're Not Helping (said out loud in a sing-song voice)
Mike Tirico with NBC Football was trying so hard to be enthusiastic with a plug for this weekend's NFL playoff game for being the first playoff game streamed on Peacock.

Oh, boy! Another subscription! Said nobody ever.

My Parent of the Year nomination is still safe.  Disclaimer: Had this event ended badly, I wouldn't be making light of it.

Facebook post from the Kitty Hawk Police Department, 1/4/2024:
Approximately 3 year old female child was found on the 4900 block of The Woods road.  She cannot tell us her name, where she lives, and does not recognize her house from the street.  The child is safe and unharmed.  If anyone recognizes this child, please contact the Kitty Hawk Police Department at 252-473-3444.

The 3 yer old was returned home safely to her parents.  Thank you to everyone who shared and took the time to help get her home safe!

Every parent has had a moment of panic when they can't locate their child. I could have easily been this parent had the timing and circumstances been perfectly coordinated. Only by the grace of God have my mistakes not been amplified on social media.

JK's Restaurant
JK's is a surf and turf restaurant in Kill Devil Hills.  It's been several years since I've been to JK's and that is unacceptable. First, they have a wine bar where you can enjoy a glass or wait for your table or both.  The bar area is small, dark, and intimate. Perfect for you and a few friends to socialize.  The dining experience is professional, courteous,  and well run.  Their steaks are amazing.  I had their special; twice grilled prime rib. It had just enough char to give it extra flavor and texture.

I've also heard they have an incredible Thursday Burger Night where they take steak and grind it up to make their hamburger meat.

JK's does not accept reservations.
