I Told You So

On August 5 I mentioned a beach closure at Ramp 55 in Hatteras Village due to contamination.  This concerned me because I recall a conversation at least 20 years ago about water quality testing on the sounds versus the ocean.  Back then there were closures/warnings for sound side recreational areas but never for ocean beaches.  Water quality testing on the ocean back then always came back pristine.  I remember contaminates from the ocean being measured in parts per billion they were so miniscule.  Are we observing a new trend?  If so, this can't be good.

Local News

It looks like opportunistic people are anticipating a windfall from the expansion of the Soundside Event Site.  It's interesting to see that a local concern is vehicle traffic and pedestrian traffic.

Whiskey For My Men, Beer For My Horses

There's only one liquor store on Hatteras Island?!  Wow, that's got to be tough for some people.  I think they could greatly expand their profits if they considered delivery.

Funny Headlines

I thought human smuggling was a big money operation.  Since you can only carry one or two passengers on a jet-ski I wonder what this person was charging.  I doubt the profit was worth the risk.

FOX 2 Detroit: Human smuggling attempt with jet ski leads to arrest of 5 in Michigan.

Have a great weekend, John Van Lunen
