Ready for an Outer Banks Weekend, 4/19/2024

158 bypass bodie island light station dead whale john railey memorial day weekend nc12 pea island voting Apr 19, 2024

Oooh, I'm Scared

I received a notice in the mail that told me everyone would know if I voted or not. Who's mother is writing this copy? Are they actually trying to shame me in to voting? Will the next one threaten to send me to my room without dessert? I've done a lot of shameful things in my life. Not voting doesn't even break the Top 20. Try something else.

Bodie Island Light Station Reopens

This historical lighthouse is often forgotten because it was closed to tourists for decades.  Now that Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is closed for repairs, Bodie Island Light Station is your only option to climb a lighthouse and enjoy an amazing view unless you want to drive to Corolla and visit Currituck Light (which is also nice).
Tickets MUST be purchased online. Be sure to arrive on-time.
Photo above was taken from atop Bodie Island Light Station.

Dead Whale Washes Up on Pea Island

Yes, this is a tragedy, but The Virginian-Pilot could at least use a stock  photograph without high rises in the background. #maileditin

Repairs to US 158/NC 12 Intersection

Looks like I'll be using Kitty Hawk Rd./Woods Rd. for a while to avoid the big intersection.

Book I Need To Purchase

Murder in Manteo, by John Railey.
John Railey is someone who has spent a lot of time here and is very adept at investigative writing. One of his other books, The Lost Colony Murder on the Outer Banks: Seeking Justice for Brenda Joyce Holland is a thorough account from the summer of 1967 that turned the quiet town of Manteo upside down.
