Ready for an Outer Banks Weekend, 3/10/23

bears outer banks taste of the beach travel vacation Mar 10, 2023

True Story: Thanks to good neighbors and good timing.

I have a plastic roof vent that dried up and broke in to a thousand pieces leaving me with hole in my roof. Because procrastination is a dominant gene in my DNA I put plastic sheeting over the hole until I could purchase a new vent. Several months go by and, to my surprise, the plastic sheeting has disintegrated. So I grab the ladder, duct tape, and more plastic sheeting to replace the old stuff. As I'm climbing up the pitch I notice the roof is very slippery due to loose asphalt from the old shingles. I make a mental note and continue to the peak. After making my repairs I begin my descent. After two steps my feet start sliding downhill. Thinking how much it's going to hurt if I fall on to the deck below I scramble back to the peak and weigh my options. This whole time I have my cell phone with me and I start wondering who I can call to rescue me. Just then I see my neighbor, Jay, walking down his driveway to the mailbox. I say "hi" and ask him if he's got a minute. He goes inside, opens a window, and I climb in. Problem solved.

Things To Do, 3/24-26/23
Taste of the Beach
Want to get out of the house? Make your rounds to different eateries on the Outer Banks.

A Relaxing Vacation
I don't know where this was filmed, what kind of company it was, or if the horse was just plain crazy but it reminds me of an old Looney Tunes cartoon.

Bear Emergency Plan
Welp, Plan A just went out the window.
Interestingly, as I was looking for this link I came across the National Park Service web page for Staying Safe Around Bears. According to the page the first step when encountering a bear is to identify yourself. Now I'm confused. Am I supposed to slowly pull out my wallet and show the bear my driver's license? What's the bear going to think when he looks at that awful picture from the DMV? "That doesn't look like you."

Summer Season is Coming
Here's something to keep you motivated.
  • Daylight Savings is 2 days away.
  • The first day of Spring is in 10 days.
  • Memorial Day Weekend is 78 days out.
  • The first day of Summer is in 103 days.

Recommendation: Swiss Diamond Saute Pan
We needed a new skillet and I decided to go big or go home. This pan is perfect for pancakes, stews, frying, and more. It's also great for baking in the oven. The non-stick surface is extremely durable and the pan is recognized by Consumer Reports as CR Recommended. Small print: Should you use the link below to purchase anything from Amazon I may receive a small commission.

Best Wishes,
