Ready for an Outer Banks Weekend, 7/22/22

Uh Oh

If you were on the Outer Banks yesterday and wanted/needed to go north to Southern Shores, Duck, or Corolla, you had a bit of a surprise waiting for you.  A water main break on Ocean Boulevard in Southern Shores flooded Rt. 12 and all traffic was diverted to South and East Dogwood Trail.  I can verify that traffic crawled along Dogwood all day.  Ocean Blvd. reopened last night after 8p.m.

Keep Talking

This plan calls for a lot of camp sites.  Not sure what to think of this.

Recommended Movie

Wind River, 2017, is an extremely well-made thriller.  The acting is excellent, story moves well, and the plot is authentic.  Be advised, it's dark and violent.

Confession

I enjoy Twitter.  There, I said it.  I joined many years ago because it was believed you needed an account if you owned a business.  In fact, my Twitter account added zero to the bottom line.  In the beginning I was following the wrong people.  Over time I've gotten rid of the idiots and started following people who put out entertaining content (and that's all social media is good for, IMHO).  If you're on Twitter I recommend you check out @RexChapman.  The stuff he finds and shares is hilarious.

Local Business Recommendation

Downtown Books in Manteo.  This is a great, little place with an awesome selection.  In addition, they are very supportive of local authors, hosting book signings on a regular basis.

Pro Tip

When you're watching a sunset on the Outer Banks, take a moment to look in the other direction.  You'll often see amazing colors attributed to the "Belt of Venus" effect (I hope I got that right).

 Weekend Weather
