Ready for an Outer Banks Weekend, 1/20/23

Jan 20, 2023
Win/Win
Support a small, Carolina brewery that supports the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Read the link and learn more about Carolina Brewery's affinity for the Outer Banks.
PS, I'm a big fan of their Copperline Amber Ale.

Bros, Burgers and Sandwiches
I had heard good things about this shop so I was curious. While driving back from the Frisco Native American Museum I stopped in for a quick sandwich. Even though they're better known for their burgers, the cashier recommended the Chicken Cristo (not on the web site) and it was amazing. I highly recommend this place for a quick sandwich or burger. Not going to Hatteras? No problem, they have a sister store at the Outlets in Nags Head.

Upgrades to Oregon Inlet Fishing Center
A few years ago the ownership of OIFC switched hands. Some feelings were hurt in the process but the new ownership promised major upgrades. Driving past the marina yesterday I was abruptly reminded that this will soon be a reality (see photo at top).  A restaurant over-looking the water is a no-brainer. I look forward to seeing the final product.

Do You Smell Something?
My wife is very diligent to tell me when something stinks. Especially when she's pointing in my direction. The irony is that she grew up in a barn shoveling manure. But I digress.
We've been driving west quite often lately and every time we pass through the town of Plymouth she gives me a real-time update of the foul smell (it wasn't me). I decided we should agree that Plymouth almost always smells (due to the lumber processing plant) and that she should fast-forward to giving the odor a rating. Stay tuned for the app.

River Cruise
Although this may be inland, Edenton is a great, historical place to visit. Here's another reason to stop by.

Get ready for next week's Podcast where I talk to Barbara Miller from the Frisco North American Museum.

Book I'm Recommending
A Historian's Coast: Adventures into the Tidewater Past, by David Celelski.
I've been a fan of Celelski ever since I read The Waterman's Song. His books are in-depth research projects pertaining to the coastal low-lands of North Carolina. Adventures into the Tidewater Past is a collection of essays he originally posted in Coastwatch magazine. I think you'll enjoy the history.
Small print: Should you purchase something while using the link, I may receive a small commission.

Have a great weekend.
